Lattice Fencing

Lattice fencing is an easier to put up and more cost effective way of putting up a fence around your lawn or yard. It is different from the usual, more privacy affording fences in that it is partially see-through.

The fence itself consists of diagonal wooden bars crisscrossing each other to form a fence punctuated by empty spaces, which look like little diamonds or squares (although of course patterns can vary depending on what you want to put up). Try think of it as a wooden wire gauze, which is the reason why lattice fences are called semi-private fences.

They can be made less transparent though by growing plants in their immediate proximity. That gives an especially nice aesthetic touch to the lawn/yard and the greenery covers up the empty spaces inside the fence.

Lattice fences can be bough, ready made, from home improvement stores but often they are made by hand, a labor of love of sorts. The materials required are cheap and easily accessible the work itself is fairly straightforward, the only intricacy involved in measuring and cutting up the diagonal pieces of wood.

Professional stores and workers can also make customized fences, ranging from the purely decorative to the purely practical. They are certainly less austere and imposing than wrought iron fences, and they provide a softer aesthetic feel to your house than the usual vertical fences or those visually horrible wooden boards that people put up.

The whole point of putting up these semi-private fences is to use your imagination and be creative. If you can do it yourself, you’ll get the most out of the experience. Even if you are getting them pre-built, make sure to involve yourself in the design process. These are easily managed, custom fences for particular gardens, lawns and yards, don’t shy away from trying something with a little flair.
